introducing: the crows’ nest (lots o’ pics)

6 Aug

our third floor apartment here in bethlehem, pennsylvania has been lovingly named the crows’ nest for it’s sheer loftiness and the bird’s eye view it gives us of the valley. after nine million stair-climbs and one unsuccessful (but not catastrophic) trek up the fire escape (that deserves a whole post, one i promise to write when i recover), i’ve drawn some conclusions.

i’ve decided that moving is a lot like getting married.

and i don’t mean the months of planning for a long, exhausting day with 100 degree weather and unexpected crises, although all of that did happen during our move north.

i’m also not, currently, talking about the life-changing weight of the day, or the roller coaster of emotions and defining family moments.

not today.

today, i’m talking about the old, new, borrowed and blue. turns out these are necessities not only for a traditionally lucky wedding day, but for our “nesting” in this new home to be complete.

we needed somethings old:

rocking chair from the 20s, repurposed front door: now "hatdoor"

the house was built over 100 years ago, and was actually picked up and moved down the street when an assisted living facility bought the land it was on before – (i promise to take some outside pictures soon!) – needless to say the place is a little crooked (literally) but full of lots of charming vintagey details.

LOVE

THESE

DETAILS

we needed somethings new:

new loveseat a necessity, RIP beloved couch

a little widescreen action!

we needed somethings borrowed:

luke's grandparents' drop-leaf kitchen table is perfect!

we needed somethings blue:

a little blue in the kitchen

some blue in the den (new blue comfy chair!)

stripes of blue in the bedroom

a little old, new, borrowed and blue never hurt anyone. in fact, they’ve made our crows’ nest a cozy little place to relax after climbing up three flights of steep chairs.

a few more pictures to make your tour complete:

come on in the front door:

Welcome!

to your right you will find our den:

to the right of the sitting area

my desk is to the right of that!

and then this little music nook rounds out the room

to the left of the front door:

our first hallway

which takes you right into the bathroom:

had to bring the floral factor down

to the right off the hallway is the bedroom (bed seen above) complete with these little closets:

i've already hit my head

many times!

and that door goes down to this:

scary fire escape we will NOT be using

back INside – to the left off the hallway:

our adorable kitchen!

to the right - just look at that stove!

nook to the left

phew. if you made it to the bottom, you’ve earned a free stay on our queen-size air mattress. congrats.

come visit soon!

my favorite thing? your desk. great repurposing (that’s what they keep calling it on the design star reruns i’ve been obsessively watching), and the style matches your beautiful computer bag and lovely planner. with those flowers on the desk and that dainty lamp you’re sure to be rising to the top, in the publishing world and the world of flair. and who couldn’t use a bit of elena for inspiration? i need a pic of her for my desk too. tell her she can mail it to me.

Next time you all get a place try for not sooo many stairs! Unless you like a challenge and I think you’re the kind of girl that does.
